But it won't be Yuichiro Anzai, 64, former president of Keio University, who had been offered the job by NHK's Board of Governors.
しかし安西さん(64歳、前慶応大学塾長)はNHKの会長職の申し出をうけていた。

After rumors circulated that Anzai had attached conditions to accepting the post, the Board of Governors pressed him to decline the offer.
しかし、安西さんが申し出を受ける噂が広まると、経営委員会?は彼に断るよう圧力をかけた。

Anzai did so on Tuesday, and lashed out at the board for reversing its earlier decision "on the basis of vicious rumors."

"What is unthinkable in common sense has happened," an indignant Anzai told a news conference.

憤慨して安西さんは言った。

"My distrust in the board has reached its peak."

On Dec. 27, Anzai accepted the board's offer to replace retiring Shigeo Fukuchi as president on Jan. 24.

But rumors spread within NHK that Anzai had demanded that the broadcaster provide him a residence in Tokyo, cover his social expenses and allow him to select his own deputy.
